About us

The AMRC Training Centre opened its doors for the first time in October 2013. This state of the art Training Centre offers a variety of engineering and business services apprenticeships for you to consider. The AMRC TC is the provider of choice for many of the Sheffield City Region most recognised employers covering Rotherham, Barnsley, Sheffield, Doncaster and Chesterfield - in fact over 200 companies at the last count are committed to utilising the AMRC TC for its apprenticeship training. We also take on our own apprentices to work as part of the wider AMRC Group, who specialise in researchand development for advanced manufacturing. This morning you might have eaten toast or cereal - this has been produced, packaged and despatched by machinery that has been built, installed and maintained by engineers. Think about your mobile phone, your clothes, your car or the bus you catch - everything requires a manufacturer, an engineer and an administrator to make it all happen. The developments in new technology will always need people like you to come up with bright ideas to keep us all moving forward. The Sheffield City Region has seen a huge increase in the engineering and manufacturing sector seeking skilled people to fill a wide variety of exciting roles For this reason, there has never been a better time to do an apprenticeship with the AMRC Training Centre. These include- •Presentation skills •Lean manufacturing principles •Project management •Technical & leadership skills Our industry partners will also provide inspirational masterclasses on the technical subjects and career journeys within engineering and professional development. Apprentices will be encouraged to take advantage of every opportunity in order to stand out from the crowd including becoming involved in activities such as •Employer and community projects •Apprenticeship Ambassador Events •World Skills UK (a national competition for apprentices).

What makes us different?

The AMRC Training Centre is part of the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). The AMRC is a global centre of excellence for industry-focused machining and materials research. We work with companies from around the world, and have brought in million pounds of investment. Our cutting edge Training Centre is now open. It is an amazing place, with state of the art machinery and technology, teaching rooms and open learning areas. As well as apprenticeships it will also deliver higher education courses such as engineering degrees, leadership training up to MBA level, and technical qualifications to help engineers improve their skills. The AMRC Training Centre offers apprenticeships in Engineering and Business Administration. We presently offer apprenticeships in the following engineering pathways: · Electrical Engineering · Fabrication & Welding · Maintenance · Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering · Technical support Entry requirements To join our engineering apprenticeship programme, you will need five GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent), including mathematics, English and preferably a science/engineering qualification. For our business administration apprenticeships, you will need five GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent), including mathematics and English. Experience or a qualification in IT is also an advantage. The AMRC TC is regarded as the ''Centre of Excellent'' for engineering and manufacturing for the Sheffield City Region. Our 60,000 sq ft building covers the following engineering / manufacturing disciplines- •Manual Machining (Turning and Milling) •CNC Machining (3&5 Axis, Turning and Milling) •Design (AutoCAD) •Mechanical Maintenance •Electrical Maintenance •Electronics (Robotics and P.L.C) •Welding & Fabrication Also including State of the art teaching environment, classroom, canteen and changing/ wash rooms (male and female) facilities are all provided under one roof. uk
