Supporting the emotional well-being of young people under 25
Interchange Sheffield is a counselling and emotional well-being service for children and young people under 25. As well as counselling and art therapy, we offer therapeutic group work, supervision and training.
We are currently developing an online offer to add to our face to face work, and are fundraising both for that new service and to be able to bridge the gap for those young people that may require longer term support, or who don't meet the criteria for our core services.
Why the community needs us - Interchange Sheffield currently works in both schools and community settings, providing upwards of 100 counselling sessions per week. Professionals who refer to us, and the young people who come for counselling feed back that counselling can make a real difference to their lives.
We have a service user/Mental Health Ambassador group who help shape our services and campaign for improvements in mental health services for young people, both locally and nationally.
“Before I started counselling at Interchange, I felt very lost in the world and had a huge lack of self-esteem… I developed a lot of understanding and perspective along with personal strength and confidence that has helped me through life to this very day.”
Sheffield Mind has been delivering mental health services in the city for over 40 years.
We're proud to have been able to source funding and work with partners to maintain the provision of free services despite a changing landscape and much greater competition for available financial resources.
Until recently, we worked with adults over the age of eighteen and provided a range of services to address multiple and complex mental health needs. However, in July 2022, in addition to our work with adults, we started working with children and young people in an exciting new pilot programme, looking at effective ways of supporting young people who are at risk of gambling-related harm.
