About us

We are a professional football club who offer a range of educational and football opportunities to a variety of groups. Studying is not confined to the classroom and our education programme is designed to bring academic studies to life.

The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme and Sheffield College are pleased to announce a unique partnership aiming to take both institutions to new heights. The association will fundamentally develop the BTEC Level 3 module undertaken by SWFC Community Programme students to aid the crucial transition into university. In addition, Sheffield Hallam University will install experienced guest lecturers into the Owls’ Community Programme, with students receiving a head start on the education pathway. The club’s Education Programme, which is based at Hillsborough Stadium, is taking applications for it's Level 1, 2 and 3 courses in Sport a through eprospectus or via email: education@swfc.co.uk. The course allows students to study towards the qualification whilst regularly playing football. We also provide opportunities for those who prefer to coach and/or participate in other sports. The programme allows young people aged 16-18 to study at the football club’s education facilities and various sports venues across Sheffield. To qualify for Level 3 entry, students require five grades of 9-4 GCSEs (subject to confirmation), including English and Maths or have previously attained a sport qualification at Level 2. Those who narrowly miss out on those grades will be considered for Level 1 or NCFE Level 2 course, which are on year programmes. The level 3 programme, which is two years in length, is delivered at the learning centre at Hillsborough and has been in place for four years. The course has seen many of the young people progress on to higher education or course-related jobs. Within 2018-2019, graduating level 3 students took various destination paths, this included 48% of students going on to study higher education at a University, a further 46% of students went into full-time employment.

What makes us different?

All learners have free and unrestricted access to B-FIT gym where they can train and take part in classes in their own time and within lesson time.
