Work towards your qualification in our industrial kitchen, where you prepare and serve breakfast and lunch every day. You will learn everything from how to chop carrots to the final presentation of food for the customer.

Besides finding out more about catering and what it can offer, you also learn things such as:

  • Functional skills - English, Maths and ICT
  • Personal and social development skills - - confidence building, communication, interaction etc

    Under the Study Programme we include much more than vocational training. There are personal and social development courses and sessions to help boost confidence, communication skills, motivation and team working abilities. We also have leisure activities, including the chance to use our on-site gym free of charge, play football and other sports, do career and job search workshops and, of course, basic skills.

Course Details

You will learn everything from chopping veg to final food presentation. Initially you learn mainly by preparing and serving food several times a day to staff, trainers, visitors and other learners on centre, but as soon as you are ready we organise a placement for you to gain valuable work experience.

Besides having the opportunity to do your Basic Food Hygiene certificate, you may learn:

  • meat and vegetable preparation
  • dietary requirements
  • various forms of food cooking
  • food presentation
  • baking and cake making
  • pastry making
  • customer service
  • hygiene and cleanliness
  • team working
  • communication skills
  • basic skills
  • jobsearch skills

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment is ongoing and you will build up your own portfolio of evidence.

The Basic Food Hygiene certificate is a paper-based test.

A willingness to work hard and great general standards of cleanliness and hygiene
