Application Instructions
Students should ensure that they meet the entry requirements for the courses they are applying for (available on subject pages) as well as the overall entry requirements (5 grades at level 4 or above but must include English and Maths).
Students need to choose a minimum of three subjects to study. Please note that all of our BTEC courses are single BTEC's and equivalent to 1 A Level, you will need to choose two further subjects if choosing a BTEC course.

Course Summary
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate (AAQ) in Health and Social Care offers an introduction to working in the sector, covering the essential knowledge, skills, and qualities required. The course includes both exam-based units and internally assessed assignments, where students apply their learning to case studies through written reports.
It will be studied alongside other subjects as part of a balanced study programme. It is equivalent in size to one A-level.
Course Details
There are three mandatory units:
Human Lifespan Development - physical, intellectual, emotional and social development across the human lifespan; the interaction between biological and social factors in health and well-being and how health care professionals provide effective care.
Human Biology and Health - the organisation, structure and normal physiological functioning of the human body, and the effect on health of common disorders of the body systems.
Principles of Health and Social Care Practice - the principles that underpin meeting the care and support needs of individuals, which are the foundation of all services within health and social care.
There is one optional unit. We will study Promoting Health Education - the purpose of health education, models and approaches to educating the public and encouraging behaviour change in the population.

Each unit counts 25% towards your final grade.

Entry requirements
- Grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language or GCSE English Literature.
If students have studied BTEC Health and Social Care at Level 2 a pass or above would also be accepted.

Your next steps...
When taken alongside other Level 3 courses (such as biology, psychology, sociology and BTEC applied science) health and social care can lead to degree courses in nursing, education, social studies or health related courses. It can also lead to apprenticeships at various levels and work or further training.
