Course Summary

A level Photography offers the opportunity for students to develop skills in still photography, digital image manipulation and moving image. Parallel to this you will develop your ability to critically evaluate others’ photography and creatively develop ideas for your own work. Following the foundation phase at the start of the course, students can select and develop their own themes and subject matter, tailoring the course to their own preferences.

Course Details

Coursework:

After an introductory foundation project, students will commence a Personal Investigation exploring self-identified themes and subjects and engaging in experimentation and development work towards a final presentation. The practical work is accompanied by a Personal Study; an extended essay in which students research photographer's work and develop their understanding of their own practise.

External Assignment:

Students respond to one of a set of themes and starting points provided by the exam board. After a ten week preparatory period students sit a 'supervised assessment' of ten hours in which they prepare their final presentation.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment Structure:

Coursework 60%

External Assignment 40%

Entry requirements

Your next steps...

Students of A Level Photography have gone on to study Photography, Media and various design disciplines in Higher education.

Aside from Photography itself, A Level Photography supports strong transferrable skills in critical language and creative project-management which provide a foundation for a broad range of subjects at university.

At least two of our ex-students are now successful practising photographers based in Sheffield and working internationally.
