Course Summary
Society is a varied and exciting place and Sociology studies who we are and how we fit into our culture. Sociologists are interested in how we gain our identity based on our gender, ethnic, age and social class differences and how these impact on our lives.
We take a critical look at the inequalities and injustices in British society.
Our course covers many aspects of modern life. We look at changes to the family, the impact of the media including social media and the digital world, deviance and crime, education and global concerns. We also look at how sociologists conduct research. It is
an academic and theoretical subject.
Course Details
Year One:
Education, Research Methods and Family/Households.
Year Two:
Advanced Methodology, Crime and Deviance and Media or Religion.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Three 2 hour exams.
Entry requirements
Grade 5 in either English Language or English Literature (must have at least a 4 in English Language). Grade 4 in GCSE Sociology if taken.
Your next steps...
This course could lead you onto higher education in one or more of the Social Sciences such as Sociology, Development Studies, Anthropology or more general higher education courses.
With further training, you could go into a job related to Sociology and people such as a Social Worker, Teacher, Social Researcher, Probation Officer, Human Resources Manager or a more general position working within the Social Services.
