Course Summary
This course is equivalent to 1 A level.
An understanding of criminology is relevant to many job roles within the criminal justice sector, social and probation work and sociology and psychology. This qualification has elements of psychology, law and sociology which complement studies in humanities. The course is designed to support learner progressing to university. It has a focus on applied learning, i.e. through the acquisition of knowledge and understanding in contexts linked to the criminal justice system.

2. Criminological Theories, externally assessed
3. Crime Scene to Courtroom, internally assessed
4. Crime and Punishment, externally assessed
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course is examined by 50% coursework and 50% examination as outlined above.

Skills developed and opportunities available:
The course allows learners to learn in such a way as to develop skills required for independent learning and development, the ability to solve problems and the skills of project based research, development and presentation. Furthermore, it allows learners to gain the required understanding and skills to be able to consider employment within some aspects of the criminal justice system for example, the National Probation Service, the Courts and Tribunals Service or the National Offender Management Service.
