Core Mathematics A Level

Please note: This qualification is equivalent to half an A level and must therefore be studied alongside 3 other A levels or an Extended BTEC.

About the Course

Core Maths is equivalent to an AS Level qualification. It is graded using A – E and the grades have the same number of UCAS tariff points as an AS Level qualification. Core Maths is intended support the understanding of the mathematical content in other courses as well as developing problem solving skills. Core maths is focused on applying maths skills and ideas.

Some of the areas developed through Core Maths are:

• Percentages

• Interpretations of graphs

• Financial Maths

• Statistical analysis

• Modelling and problem solving

Core Maths is assessed over 2 papers at the end of the qualification.

The grades range from A – E and have the same value as an AS Level qualification.
