Course Summary

Students develop knowledge in the physiological and the psychological factors that can affect improve and develop sports performance. Students will also develop knowledge of contemporary issues within PE and sport, and will gain an insight into the detailed analysis of sports performance.

There will be practical / written coursework as well as examinations at the end of the course.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Component 1: Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport. Written examination. (35% of A level)

Component 2: Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport. 2 hour written examination. (35% of A level)

Component 3: Non-examined assessment of practical performance in physical activity and sport. Written / verbal analysis and evaluation of performance in 3 areas of assessment. (30% of A level)


*Please note that in order to excel within the practical component of the course, regular competitive participation within sport (as a performer or coach) is highly recommended. Externally gained video footage of performance/coaching must be submitted.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 5 in Physical Education / BTEC equivalent and a grade 5 in GCSE Science. Pupils must also regularly take part in at least one sporting activity outside of school at a high level.
