Course Details

The A Level English Literature course at UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park offers a rich and varied programme of study that spans classic and modern works.

In Prose, you’ll explore the theme of the Supernatural through Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, analysing how Gothic writers use fear, temptation, and the unknown to explore human nature.

In Drama, you’ll study Shakespeare’s Othello, examining power, jealousy, and tragedy, alongside Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, a modern classic that delves into identity, desire, and societal expectations.

The Poetry component includes Modernist poetry and a Post-2000 Poetry Anthology, giving you the chance to explore a range of voices, forms, and contexts across time.

Finally, for coursework, you will complete an independent comparative essay on two literary texts of your own choice, supported by research and critical analysis. This allows you to pursue your personal interests and develop the independence and academic rigour valued by universities.
